Bienvenue sur le site web de Jean-Pierre Jost JOSTWILDLIFE qui présente un choix de photos et dessins sur la faune ainsi qu’une série de livres rédigés par JP et son épouse Yan-Chim.

Jean-Pierre Jost est né à Avenches (Suisse). À 15 ans, il débuta comme ouvrier agricole et facteur de montagne en Suisse centrale. Il se prépara ensuite pour le concours d’admission à l’Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale à Zürich où il fut admis en 1957. Après avoir obtenu son diplôme d’ingénieur agronome et un doctorat en phytopathologie, il étudia la biologie moléculaire et travailla pendant sept ans aux Etats-Unis comme chercheur(postdoc et team leader) à l’Université du Wisconsin à Madison puis dans le centre de recherche du National Jewish Hospital à Denver dans le Colorado où il enseigna également  (professeur adjoint) dans le département de biophysique de l'Université du Colorado à Denver. De retour en Suisse il dirigea pendant plus de trente ans un laboratoire de recherche en biologie moléculaire et épigénétique à l’Institut Friedrich Miescher de recherches biomédicales (Novartis) à Bâle. 

Son intérêt pour la nature débuta en 1946 déjà. Il participa à de nombreux concours et expositions publiques de photos.

Son épouse TSE Yan-Chim, née en Chine,  étudia à l'Université du Wisconsin (Madison). Elle fut pendant plus de 50 ans sa fidèle collaboratrice dans le laboratoire et sur le terrain (décédée en 2020). Elle joua  un rôle important dans l’observation du comportement de la faune sauvage. Ils publièrent ensemble une série de monographies sur le comportement de la faune sauvage et autres ouvrages.

Welcome to Jean-Pierre Jost’s home page.
JOSTWILDLIFE shows a variety of wild life photos and drawings as well as a series of books on animal behaviour written together with his wife Yan-Chim.
 

Jean-Pierre Jost, born in Avenches, Switzerland, at the age of 15 he started as a farm worker and a postman in the Alps. After being admitted to the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, he studied agronomy and received a degree as an engineer and a Ph.D. in phytopathology. He then studied molecular biology and worked for 7 years in the USA (U. of Wisconsin, Madison and the Research Center of the National Jewish Hospital in Denver, Colorado). At the same time he was teaching (assistant professor) in the department of Biophysics at the University of Colorado. Upon returning to Switzerland he was a team leader for basic research (molecular biology and epigenetics) at the Friedrich Miescher Institute of Biomedical Research in Basel for over 30 years.

 

He has been observing the behaviour of animals since 1946. He participated in numerous competitions and exhibitions of photography. His wife TSE Yan-Chim, born in China studied also at the University of Wisconsin (Madison). She was his loyal assistant for over 50 years, both in the laboratory and in the field research of wildlife (She passed away in 2020).  She made major contributions to the photos, numerous books and this website.      jpjostse@yahoo.com
